First XI – Saturday 12 June – Away v Acton Reynold

14th June 2021

After last week’s exceptional bowling performance against Broseley, we looked to put in a better all round effort as our 1st team headed to Acton Reynald. After winning the toss and deciding to bowl things were evenly poised at the 20 over mark. Will Davis can consider himself to be very unlucky not claiming a scalp despiteĀ a quality spell. Ben Jones was once again amongst the wickets with figures of 2-31. Despite these two efforts, Reynald managed to amass a big total of 261-4 from their 40 overs with the home side’s number 3 Sam Cotter scoring a well played 134 not out. Alexis Newman and Charlie Rogers also picked up a wicket each.

Condover needed some decent contributions with the bat if we were to have any chance of winning. Robbie Barker looked in good touch before being superbly caught for 13 and Alexis played some nice shots for his 17 runs. However it was the third wicket partnership between Charlie and Louis Irvine which kept Condover in the game. Charlie hit back to back fifties this week against the same opposition, scoring 67 from the top of the order as Louis set to work demolishing the home team’s attack. With plenty more runs still to get, Louis brought up his first ton for the club and his third overall. He was well assisted by Josh Leese who kept the scoreboard ticking with his 34 not out. With 2.3 overs left Louis smashed the ball to the boundary finishing on 124 not out and completing a brilliant run chase.

Next week our 1sts are on the road again, this time to Bishops Castle.
