Match Report – Condover 1st XI v Cae Glas 1st XI

Another weekend of cricket saw another weekend of rain as once again our second team’s game was called off. However the first team were more fortunate with the weather as they secured 24 points in a dominant display against Cae Glas.
Condover were put into bat at the toss with showers around and on a tricky pitch and outfield affected by the recent rainfall. However the opening partnership of Robbie Barker and skipper Charlie Rogers once again came to the fore. The pair piled on the runs with their third consecutive century stand for the first wicket with a 256 run double act. Both batsmen were dropped early on which ended up costing the visitors heavily. Robbie played the more aggressive role with some devastating blows taking him to his first century, a well deserved 135. Charlie (108 not out) reached his 4th league hundred not long after as both batsmen continued their good form. We finished our 40 overs with the score 258-1.
Cae Glas came out swinging in reply and full credit to them for having a go rather than trying to bat out for a draw. Jon Mansell (5-17) tore through the visitors batting line up once again. Condover caught everything that came to them including a screamer at first slip from Mike Rogers, as we bowled Cae Glas out for 50 inside 14 overs. Will Davis (3-24) took out the top order and debutant Pat Buckingham (2-6) finished off the innings.
Next week our first team travels to Quatt in an early season top of the table clash, whilst the second team will have to wait until June. Weather wise a very frustrating start to the season, but a great start on the field!
