Condover CC WON by 116 runs

Our 1st team carried on from where they left off last week with a dominant performance against Hodnet.
After losing the toss and being put in to bat, Condovers opening pair of Robbie Barker and Charlie Rogers got off to a great start by putting on 125 runs for the first wicket. Both looked comfortable at the crease and didnt look like getting out, until one quick single too many saw Robbie ran out for 39. Alexis Newman came in next at three with 14 overs left in the innings. Him and Charlie made a partnership of 30 before the captain was caught at long on for 80. The last 10 overs saw some great shots and big hitting from Alexis (22), Andy Mottram (31) and Jordan Barker (38). This meant that Condover finished on 252-6 from their 40 overs.
Hodnet never got going in the run chase and that was largely thanks to Jon Mansell’s quality opening spell of 4-21 from his 12 overs. JC ripped through the visitors top order and was simply too good for them. Jordan took 2 quality catches behind the stumps. Alexis and Ben Jones also picked up a wicket each as Condover went on the attack to bowl Hodnet all out and gain full points. Youngster Tom Hughes picked up his first wicket for the club by clipping the batsmans leg stump. Motty (2-4) was brought on to try and claim the last few wickets with his darting yorkers. With one over to go and two wickets left, Ben trapped their number 10 plumb in front to create some last over drama. Despite all fielders being round the bat, Hodnet managed to hang on. However, they didn’t manage to score the 60% of the first innings total required to gain the draw point, so Condover picked up another win.
Next week the 1sts travel to Trysull & Seisdon who have also started with 2 wins.
