Condover 1 vs Iscoyd & Fenns Bank – Match Report

16th May 2021
After last weeks washout and even more rain yesterday, things have been pretty grim for cricket in Shropshire. Only a handful of games were played in the county yesterday, with our 2s trip to Beacon falling foul to the conditions. However, the first team did manage to squeeze in a game.
Despite the toss taking place at 12pm, play didnt start till 1:15 where Condover chose to bowl first in a 25 overs per side match. Robbie Barker (1-10) struck in the first over and bowled a very tidy spell. The visitors then had a solid partnership mainly based around their number 3 batsman reaching a well played fifty. Alexis Newman was then brought into the attack and made the key breakthrough. He continued to bowl well and picked up figures of 3-22. Ben Jones (1-40) took a great caught and bowled and Josh Leece (2-17) did well at the death. Iscoyd’s innings finished with the score 142-7 from their 25 overs.
In reply the away sides opening bowlers bowled good areas and on a tricky pitch made things tough. However despite a slow start, Robbie Barker and Charlie Rogers continued from where they left off two weeks ago. Condovers opening pair again making a century stand for the first wicket, with Robbie reaching a classy half century before being caught for 52. Alexis and Charlie kept the scoreboard going bringing us closer to the target. With 2 runs to win Charlie was clean bowled for 71, this left vice captain Jordan Barker to hit the winning runs straight back down the ground for four ensuring an 8 wicket victory.
With no other games played in the league, Condover went top of the division after an unbeaten start. Next week the firsts are home again to Cae Glas with the second team away to Quayside. Fingers crossed for some dry weather!
