First XI Match Report
The firsts made it 2 wins out of 2 this weekend as we completed a comprehensive victory away at Acton Reynald. Three changes to the team saw Rowan Cresswell make the step up, Mark Griffiths return to outdoor cricket for the first time post covid and Mike Rogers make one final appearance as he came out of retirement.
After winning the toss and deciding to bowl, our attack picked up from where they left off last week. Robbie Barker bowled some top deliveries with the new ball picking up 2 wickets. Ben Jones and Zoe Griffiths also claimed 2 each as youngster Rowan took 3 in the last 10 overs. A decent first innings effort restricted Reynald to 136-9 from their 40 overs.
In reply the familiar opening pair of Robbie Barker and Charlie Rogers once again came to the fore as they put on 142 for the first wicket. Robbie ended up unbeaten on 58 whilst the captain brought out some classic jug avoidance finishing on 49 despite hitting the winning runs with a six. We chased down the target after 25.4 overs.
A good start to the season and we’ll look to continue that in our next fixture at home to Wheaton Aston, who have also started their 2022 campaign strongly.
